High School Programs
High School students can gain course credit at HGTC in four ways: Articulation, Dual Enrollment, Joint Enrollment, or ACCEL.
Articulation: Local articulation agreements have been developed between Heart of Georgia Technical College and the seven school systems within the service area to aid in a seamless transition from area high schools to HGTC without repetition of coursework already mastered in the high school. To obtain a list of articulated courses, please contact the high school guidance office or the Educational Career Partnership Manager, (478) 274-7765.
Dual and Joint Enrollment students may enroll in technical certificate of credit or diploma programs. High school students enrolling in associate degree programs will be accepted under the ACCEL program. Students must be at least 16 years of age to enroll at HGTC before high school graduation.
Dual Enrollment: The Dual Enrollment program is a collaboration between the Georgia Department of Education and the Technical College System of Georgia. The purpose of the program is to offer additional educational opportunities for secondary students. Students earn high school and postsecondary credit at the same time by taking dual enrollment classes.
Joint Enrollment: Students who are interested in beginning their college career earlier by taking classes at HGTC to earn only technical college credit may enroll as joint enrollment students.
Financial Aid for Dual/Joint Enrollment: The HOPE Grant can fund tuition costs for eligible DUAL and JOINT enrollment students. To be eligible for the HOPE Grant, a student must be a citizen of Georgia, not be in default of a student loan or owe a Pell Refund, and not be convicted of a drug-related offense. Eligible students also receive a book allowance based upon the number of technical college credits they take each quarter. Students are responsible for any book cost that exceeds their book allowance.
ACCEL: Students who want to begin an Associates of Applied Science program can participate as an ACCEL student. Please see your high school counselor for details.
In addition to being on track at the high school and receiving approval from their high school counselor, potential students should ask their high school counselor for more information. Applications can be obtained from the high school guidance office. Students must also have approval from a parent or guardian to participate in the dual enrollment program.

Students who successfully complete this program are awarded a Technical Certificate of Credit from HGTC upon completion of their high school diploma. Dual Enrollment is available to students who are at least 16 years of age and who are classified as high school juniors or seniors by DJJ. Residents who have earned a high school diploma or GED, or who are pursuing a GED, may earn credit at the college level.
