Criminal Justice: The Criminal Justice Technology program prepares students for a variety of jobs in the Criminal Justice profession. Learning opportunities develop academic, occupational, and professional knowledge/skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes a combination of Criminal Justice theory and practical application necessary for successful employment. Program graduates receive an Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice Technology, Criminal Justice Technology Diploma, and/or Criminal Justice Technician Technical Certificates of Credit. Graduates who are current practitioners will benefit through enhancement of career potential. Entry-level persons will be prepared to pursue diverse opportunities in the corrections, security, investigative, and police administration fields. Prior to criminal justice students enrolling in internship courses, students may be required to complete a criminal background check and/or drug screening, depending on the agency where the student is interning. For internship, students must wear either a uniform required by their place of employment or a HGTC criminal justice uniform sold in the college bookstore. The cost is bourn by the student. Special Note: Conviction of a felony or sufficient misdemeanors to establish a pattern of disregard for the law could make a student ineligible for certain jobs or to take the appropriate licensing exam(s) required by the profession upon graduation. Many employers in field administer criminal background checks prior to employment. A Criminal Record Background Check with a satisfactory determination is required of all persons working in the criminal justice field. Faculty advisors will provide information about this procedure. Culinary Arts: The Culinary Arts program provides educational opportunities for persons needing employment skills to enable them to attain educational and practical work experience so they may become employed in the field of Culinary Arts. Learning opportunities develop academic, occupational, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition. Program graduates receive a Culinary Nutrition Assistant and/or Culinary Nutrition Manager Technical Certificates of Credit. Graduates who are current practitioners will benefit through enhancement of career potential. Entry-level persons will be prepared to pursue diverse opportunities in the culinary field as kitchen assistants, cooks, or dining room servers. Early Childhood Care and Education: The Early Childhood Care and Education program provides training to increase knowledge, develop skills and foster attitudes that will prepare students wholly, or in part, for a career in Early Childhood Care and Education. Program graduates receive an Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Care and Education, Early Childhood Care and Education Diploma, and/or Child Development Associate I, Early Childhood Paraprofessional Specialization, Early Childhood Program Administration, Infant and Toddler Child Care Specialist Technical Certificates of Credit. Prior to beginning Early Childhood practicum/internships, students must have satisfactorily completed a criminal background check. Criminal Background checks are valid for one year. In some programs, students are required to purchase uniforms, supplies, and materials. Students assigned to off-campus practicum/internship sites must have reliable transportation. Environmental Horticulture Technician: The Environmental Horticulture Technician program of study provides training in horticulture science competencies which include basic knowledge about plants, nursery production, landscape installation, pest management and irrigation. It also promotes an atmosphere for learning so individuals will focus on opportunities for life long learning as a means for enhancing their opportunities for long term employment in the horticulture profession. Graduates will qualify for entry level positions in the nursery, landscape or agricultural industry.
