Safety and Security Information
It is the obligation of Heart of Georgia Technical College (HGTC) to ensure
orderly operation, to protect the rights of all members of the HGTC community, to
prohibit acts which materially and substantially interfere with legitimate
educational objectives or interfere with the rights of others and to take
disciplinary action where conduct adversely affects the College’s pursuit of its
educational objectives. (The Student Code of Conduct can be found in the
Student Handbook.) HGTC will comply with Title II
of Public Law 101542,
Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act. This law is
also known as the "Jeanne Clery Act."
HGTC is to provide a safe educational environment for students and a safe working environment for faculty and other staff; and to provide a planned and coordinated response to certain acts and occurrences through the use of an Emergency Operations and Safety Plan
Heart of Georgia Technical College will develop and implement an Emergency Operations and Safety Plan to address general safety procedures, safety concerns in the classroom and lab shop operation, liability issues, preparedness for acts of violence, acts of terrorism, accidents, hazardous materials and natural disasters.
Development of the Emergency Operations and Safety Plan shall involve students, employees and representatives of local law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical services, hospitals and emergency management. O.C.G.A. §20-2-1185, School Safety, mandates such local involvement in emergency plans developed by elementary and secondary schools and HGTC will participate with the local communities in the development of their plan.
The Plan shall be reviewed and updated annually by Heart of Georgia Technical College. The review and update shall occur by October 1st each year.
