It is the intention of The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) to provide assistance to eligible in-school youth so that they can successfully transition from high school/GED classes into higher education or full time employment. Out-of-school youth are served through assistance in returning to school/GED classes, further training or full time employment. WIA is career oriented, not just short term summer employment. WIA will provide Case Managers to work with eligible youth in making plans for and successfully reaching these goals. WIA youth need to be committed to working toward and reaching their career goals and be willing to continue to work with their WIA Case Managers until their goals are reached, which in many cases may be several years.

The following is a list of the TEN YOUTH PROGRAM ELEMENTS:

  1. Drop-Out Prevention
  2. Alternative Education, Employment Prep and Success
  3. Summer Employment Opportunities
  4. Work experience
  5. Occupational Skills Training
  6. Supportive Services
  7. Mentoring
  8. Guidance and Counseling
  9. Follow-up(minimum of 12 months)
  10. Citizenship and Leadership Training

Heart of Georgia RESA's Individual Training Accounts are funded through:

  • Region 9 Workforce Investment Board
  • Heart of Georgia Altamaha RDC/Grant Recipient and Job Training Unlimited/Administrative Entity
