POSITION:

Part-time General Studies Instructor

LOCATION: Dublin Campus and Little Ocmulgee Instructional Center
EMPLOYMENT DATE:

April 7 to June 17, 2010

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

CHM 1111, ECO 1101, PHY 1110 and SPC 1101:  Master’s degree in the teaching discipline or a master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline

ENG 0097, ENG 0098, MAT 0097:  Baccalaureate degree in a discipline related to their teaching assignment and has either teaching experience in a discipline related to their assignment or graduate training in remedial education.

ENG 1010 and MAT 1013:  Baccalaureate degree in field and should have work or other experience which helps relate these skills to the occupational field.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Under supervision of the department chairperson, provide professional instruction based on an approved course syllabus, provide individual academic assistance to students, and maintain class attendance and evaluation records. Responsible for compliance with all college policies and safety policies to ensure a positive learning environment for student instruction.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time position

Salary for this position is commensurate with experience, credentials and the Technical College System of Georgia Salary Schedule.

Courses

CHM 1111—Chemistry I

Provides an introduction to basic chemical principles and concepts which explain the behavior of matter. Topics include: measurement; physical and chemical properties of matter; atomic structure; chemical bonding; nomenclature; chemical reactions; stoichiometry and gas laws; basic laboratory skills and lab safety procedures.

ECO 1101—Principles of Economics

Provides a description and analysis of economic operations in contemporary society.  Emphasis is placed on developing an understanding of economic concepts and policies as they apply to everyday life.  Topics include:  basic economic principles; economic forces and indicators; capital and labor; price, competition, and monopoly; money and banking; government expenditures, federal and local; fluctuations in production, employment, and income; and United States economy in perspective.

PHY 1110—Introductory Physics

The course is an introduction to some of the basic laws of physics. Topics include: systems of units and conversion of units; vector algebra; Newtonian mechanics; fluids and thermodynamics; heat; light, and optics; mechanical waves; electricity and magnetism; and modern physics. Laboratory experience supports classroom learning. Computer use is an integral part of class and laboratory assignments.

SPC 1101—Public Speaking

Introduces the fundamentals of oral communication.  Topics include:  selection and organization of materials, preparation and delivery of individual and group presentations, and analysis of ideas presented by others; and professionalism.

 

ENG 0097—English III

Emphasizes the rules of grammar, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and writing in order to ensure a smooth transition into communicating orally and in writing.  Topics include basic grammar, mechanics, spelling, and sentence writing and paragraphing skills needed for writing memos, letters, reports, and short essays.

ENG 0098—English IV

Emphasizes the ability to communicate using written and oral methods.  Topics include writing and the process of writing, revising, and oral communications.

ENG 1010—Fundamentals of English I (Monday & Wednesday, 10:35 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.)

Emphasizes the development and improvement of written and oral communications abilities.  Topics include:  analysis of writing; applied grammar and writing skills; editing and proofreading skills; research skills; and oral communication skills.  Homework assignments reinforce classroom learning.

MAT 0097 - Learning Support Mathematics III

Emphasizes in-depth arithmetic skills needed for the study of mathematics related to specific occupational programs and for study of basic algebra.  Topics include:  whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, measurement, geometry, and application problems.

MAT 1013—Algebraic Concepts

Introduces concepts and operations which can be applied to the study of algebra.  Course content emphasizes:  basic mathematical concepts, basic algebraic concepts, and intermediate algebraic concepts.  Class includes lecture, applications, and homework to reinforce learning.

SPC 1101—Public Speaking
